Wood Fencing for Sierra Foothill Homes

Wood fences blend with Nevada County's timber heritage—from Nevada City's Victorian neighborhoods to modern cabins above snow line. Twin Rivers Fence builds cedar and redwood systems with galvanized fasteners, proper ground clearance, and footing depth suited to local clay and decomposed granite.

Species and Grades

Western red cedar resists decay and accepts stain evenly. Redwood offers similar performance with rich tone. We avoid untreated pine for ground-contact posts in wet foothill soils.

Board-on-board and cap-and-trim profiles hide minor shrinkage gaps that appear after the first dry summer.

Installation on Slopes

Stepped panels follow grade on hillsides common above Brunswick Road and Alta Sierra. Rackable designs are limited on wood—we custom-cut tops for clean sight lines.

Post rot prevention includes gravel drainage at footings and clearances six inches above soil where possible.

  • Privacy, picket, and horizontal styles
  • Pressure-treated posts
  • Custom heights and caps
  • Stain-ready smooth finish

Care in Our Climate

Plan stain every three to five years and inspect after heavy snow at elevation. Our maintenance and staining services extend life through freeze-thaw cycles.

Frequently asked questions

Cedar or redwood for my yard?

Both perform well. Redwood is often denser; cedar is widely available. Budget and HOA color rules may decide.

Will termites affect wood fence here?

Less than lower elevations but possible. Ground contact and moisture are bigger drivers of decay—keep boards off soil.

Horizontal wood fences— HOA issues?

Some HOAs restrict horizontal orientation. Verify before design—we provide spec sheets.
